Usurped power is a phrase common in insurance policies since the 18th century—and still found in standard war exclusions—that refers to an organized military operation, either foreign or domestic, that seizes the powers legally conferred upon a government.

Utility service interruption coverage provides insurance for loss due to lack of utility services, such as power, communication, or water supply services, caused by damage from a covered cause (such as a fire or windstorm) to property away from the insured's premises—usually the utility generating station.
