IRMI Announces Keynote Speakers for the 26th IRMI Construction Risk Conference in San Diego

DALLAS—International Risk Management Institute, Inc. (IRMI) will host its 26th IRMI Construction Risk Conference October 9-12, 2006, in San Diego. The Conference is the only national symposium devoted exclusively to construction insurance, risk management, loss control, and bonding. The 3½-day program is designed for construction industry risk management and financial officers; construction project owners; and the insurance and surety agents, brokers, advisers, attorneys, and underwriters who serve them.

The two keynote speakers will be Joe Plumeri, Chairman and CEO of Willis Group Holdings Limited; and Luther P. Cochrane, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of BE&K Building Group, Inc.

Mr. Plumeri joined Willis in October 2000 after a 32-year career at Citigroup and its predecessor companies. Since joining the global broker, Mr. Plumeri has instituted changes driving client service to new heights and has been an outspoken leader urging the industry to challenge conventions and long-standing practices to modernize the entire sector.

Mr. Cochrane joined BE&K in 2004 after serving as Chairman Emeritus, Global Chairman and CEO, and Chairman of Bovis Lend Lease. An active civic leader in North Carolina, Mr. Cochrane has served on numerous Advisory Boards including Carolinas AGC and the American Architectural Foundation. A noted industry author, Mr. Cochrane is a Founding Member of the American College of Construction Lawyers.

The IRMI Construction Risk Conference features new content each year in 28 workshops facilitated by insurance, safety, legal, and bonding experts from across the United States. The Conference begins Monday, October 9, and features optional full- and half-day workshops. Monday topics are Contractual Risk Transfer, The Truth about Wrap-Ups, Workers Compensation Trends, Risk Management for Condominium Projects, and Negotiation Strategies. Concurrent workshop topics presented during the remainder of the Conference include Liability Insurance Challenges; Preconstruction Wrap-Up Requirements; Construction Defects; Safeguarding Construction Equipment; Environmental Claims; A Surety’s View of Contractor Financial Statements; Construction Contract Negotiation; Insuring Residential Contractors; Builders Risk; Maritime Risks and Insurance; Safety; Claims Management; Contractors’ Professional Liability; Health Care Risk Management; Preparing for a Catastrophic Event; Mergers and Acquisitions; Experience Modification; and Managing Uninsurable Risks.

Attendees have the option of registering for the entire program Monday through Thursday noon with an Early Bird fee is $1,420 or Tuesday through Thursday noon with an Early Bird fee of $1,320. Contractors and project owners attending for the first time qualify for a special first-timers’ half-price registration fee of $710.
