Thomas (TJ) Lyons Honored as Recipient of the 2023 Bill McIntyre Leadership Award  

Dallas, TX, November 13, 2023—Thomas (TJ) Lyons, safety consultant with Lyonetics Safety, was announced as the recipient of the 2023 Bill McIntyre Leadership Award today at the International Risk Management Institute, Inc. (IRMI), Construction Risk Conference (CRC) 

Sponsored by Travelers, this award recognizes visionary leaders who demonstrate a commitment to construction risk management through creativity, service, mentoring, and education. The award is named for IRMI Executive Chairman Bill McIntyre, who has inspired, trained, and educated thousands of risk professionals and is a passionate advocate of construction risk management and safety.  

Mr. Lyons has over 36 years of experience executing innovative and practical approaches to safety on environmental and construction projects, with the majority of his career working with two of the largest general construction contractors in the United States. He is the only person who has received all three prestigious awards presented annually at IRMI CRC: the Bill McIntyre Leadership Award, the Gary E. Bird Horizon Award, and the Words of Wisdom Award. 

A recognized expert in the area of prevention through design, he is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) accredited by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP). He is also a board-certified Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician (OHST), accredited by the BCSP, and a Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS®), certified by IRMI. He recently retired from the industry, but the initiatives he championed—such as “Ladders Last,” “Nothing Hits the Ground,” prevention through design, and suicide prevention—will continue to save lives throughout the world for years to come.
