Paul Farrell writes on
personal risk management for IRMI.com.
Mr. Farrell presently provides technical expertise on business auto loss
control issues at Nationwide Insurance, the third largest writer of commercial
auto coverage in the United States. He is part of the Loss Control Services
technical support staff, and his duties include development of consultant
training, customer deliverables, and sharing industry insights to increase
vehicle safety throughout North America. He recently became a certified
director of safety (CDS) through the North American Transportation Management
Institute—an organization that specializes in supervisory and management
training programs tied to the transportation industry.
Having graduated from Penn State in 1987 with an Earth Sciences degree, Mr.
Farrell began his insurance career as a loss control intern with Reliance
Insurance. Building experience as a multi-state servicing consultant for
manufacturing, construction, municipalities, and transportation, he joined
Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company as loss control manager, serving as program
manager for business auto, general liability, and products liability. He then
joined SafetyFirst, where he was director of marketing and then CEO, until
being recruited back into the insurance world by C.V. Starr & Co., Inc., to
head the development of a loss control team for their trucking division.
Over the years, Mr. Farrell has authored dozens of technical articles for
various trade publications, such as CPCU Insights, ASSE TransActions,
and NATMI’s Guardrail. He has spoken on driver safety topics at
regional, national, and even international road safety conferences.
