Background
Lisa Smuckler is co-editor of Contractual Risk Transfer. She holds the Construction
Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS) designation and the Energy Risk and
Insurance Specialist (ERIS) certification.
Ms. Smuckler began her career as an attorney working for two preeminent law
firms in Chicago, where she specialized in complex commercial litigation and
insurance coverage matters. Ms. Smuckler represented insurance companies in an
extensive array of insurance coverage disputes, including construction defect,
advertising injury, professional liability, environmental, reinsurance, and
extra-contractual claims. She also represented insurers in direct action
lawsuits involving products liability, wrongful death, environmental, and toxic
tort claims, as well as provided litigation management and monitored class
action lawsuits, multidistrict litigations, and other high-exposure claims on
behalf of excess insurers. Prior to joining IRMI, Ms. Smuckler held a dual role
as an account executive and in-house counsel for a class action administration
company located in the Midwest, where she specialized in a wide variety of
transactional, intellectual property, employment, and compliance matters.
Ms. Smuckler received a B.A. degree in French with Honors and Distinction
from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a J.D. degree from Chicago-Kent
College of Law.
