Cyber Claims Practice Leader
Kirsten Mickelson is the cyber claims practice leader within Gallagher Bassett's Specialty division, where she leads the organization's cyber practice group. She brings more than 15 years of industry experience across cyber, technology, privacy, and data security matters, with a strong focus on cyber-incident response, data breach management, privacy class actions, and privacy compliance.
Since joining Gallagher Bassett in 2023, Kirsten has been responsible for building and training a best-in-class cyber-claims team. Her work includes developing practice group standards and best practices, establishing strategic and tactical approaches to service delivery, and expanding Gallagher Bassett's footprint in the rapidly evolving cyber-insurance market.
Prior to Gallagher Bassett, Kirsten served as senior team manager and counsel at Coalition, Inc., where she advised customers on preparing for and responding to cyber incidents affecting network infrastructure. In this role, she counseled clients through complex data breach events and frequently presented on ransomware trends, Office of Foreign Assets Control advisory updates, and the evolving cyber-threat landscape. She also led and developed high-performing teams with an emphasis on superior customer service and cost-effective outcomes.
Earlier in her career, Kirsten was a senior claims counsel at Hiscox, where she managed hundreds of cyber incidents and third-party claims. Her experience spans data breaches, cyber extortion, ransomware attacks, distributed denial-of-service events, and business interruption losses.
Kirsten holds a bachelor of arts degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and a juris doctor (JD) from the University of California, Davis School of Law. She holds multiple privacy and information governance certifications, including Certified Information Privacy Professional/US (CIPP/US), CIPP/Europe (CIPP/E), CIPP/Canada (CIPP/C), Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM), and Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional (AIGP). She is also a Fellow of Information Privacy (FIP).
Her leadership and impact in the field have been recognized nationally, including being named an Inspiring Woman in Cyber Insurance by Cyber Insurance Awards USA and Intelligent Insurer.
