Background
Andrew Berry writes the insurance
technology section of IRMI.com.
As president and founder of Newport Risk Services, a professional services
and consulting firm in the property casualty insurance industry, Mr. Berry has
20 years' experience in property casualty insurance. Prior to that, he was
co-founder and president of GRX Technologies (GRX), an industry leader in the
development of collaborative technologies streamlining the management of large
commercial insurance programs. GRX was at the forefront of the use of XML data
standards in the insurance industry and was active in the development of
ACORD's data standards initiative. Andrew served as founding CEO of the
company raising early stage funding and recruiting senior management. During
this time, the company was recognized as the recipient of the first HP Garage
E-Scholarship and was featured in Business 2.0.
Mr. Berry started his career as an insurance broker in the London and U.K.
retail brokerage markets, served as a risk management consultant with
Tillinghast-Towers Perrin in London and Boston, and also worked in the captive
management industry with Strategic Risk Solutions, an independent captive
management company. While at Strategic Risk Solutions, he developed approaches
for the use of web-based technology for managing the exchange of information on
group captives. This approach used Sharepoint technology and was subsequently
adopted across all of the company's clients.
Mr. Berry has a bachelor of arts degree from Nottingham University in the
United Kingdom and an MBA (summa cum laude)
with a concentration in entrepreneurship from Babson College. He holds
Fellowship of the Institute of Risk Management (FIRM) and Fellowship of the
Chartered Insurance Institute (FCII) designations. He is a member of the RIMS
Technology Advisory Committee and was the founding editor of RIMSTech, the
Society's technology bulletin.
