Over 450 Attend IRMI Emmett J Vaughan Agribusiness Conference

Release Date: May 9, 2016

Sacramento, CA—Over 450 risk managers, insurance agents, brokers, and underwriters who specialize in managing or insuring the risks associated with farm and agribusinesses convened here April 26–28 for the IRMI Emmett J Vaughan Agribusiness Conference (AgriCon).

AgriCon offers the classes that lead to obtaining and maintaining the AFIS certification, the foremost continuing education program for specialists in the agricultural and farm insurance industry. In addition, it offers more than 25 breakout sessions focused on a variety of cutting-edge topics. Virtually all the major providers of insurance services for the farm and agribusiness industries are represented.

"This year's conference set attendance records and offered the preeminent agribusiness insurance education program in the U.S.," said Scott Dunn, vice president of Pan American Insurance Agency, Santa Maria. "The students pursuing their AFIS designations are dedicated to providing valuable knowledge and expertise to their clients. I was impressed by their engagement and participation. IRMI is doing a great job in providing this much needed resource to brokers and underwriters."

This year’s conference saw the first two recipients of the Words of Wisdom (WOW) Award at AgriCon. The WOW Award recognizes speakers who have stood out as being the very best. Based on attendee evaluations, it is given to speakers who give outstanding, enthusiastic presentations; prepare detailed and useful handouts; and effectively use visual aids. More importantly, they share practical ideas, tips, and techniques that attendees can take back to their jobs and use. Congratulations to Cheryl Koch, president and CEO of Agency Management Resource Group, and Alan Parizo, independent consultant.

“We were excited to bring this premier education and networking event to another sold-out crowd in Sacramento,” said Millie Workman, IRMI’s director of training and education. “The agribusiness insurance community is committed to the success of the industry. And IRMI is committed to fulfilling their need to stay current.”

The next conference this year will be held July 18–20 in our new location, Tampa, Florida. For more information and to register, visit
