Mike Mead Named New Editor of Captive Insurance Company Reports

Dallas, TX, December 12, 2012—IRMI President & CEO Jack Gibson is pleased to announce Michael R. Mead is the new editor of Captive Insurance Company Reports (CICR) effective with the February 2013 issue.

Mead has a long and distinguished history with both captives and IRMI. A veteran of the insurance industry, Mead has served in a variety of roles: regional director of a global broker, an underwriter, and an entrepreneur starting and operating several insurance-related companies. He currently is president of his own company, which works primarily in captive management and consulting. He is past chairman and director of the Captive Insurance Companies Association, past president and director of the Arizona Captive Insurance Association, and a founding director of the Surplus Line Association of Illinois. In addition, he has been an IRMI.com Expert Commentator, contributing to the captive column, for over a decade.

"No longer are captives merely a means to ride out a hard market," said Gibson. "Now, they are critical risk management and funding vehicles for many firms. With his experience and many contacts in the industry, we know Mike is the right man to take the helm of CICR at such an exciting time for captives."

As a life-long broker and consultant of many years, Mead hopes to bring in new faces and opportunities to reach further into those communities with CICR. "Captives are not just for captive practitioners," said Mead. "In today’s evolving world of risk and alternative finance, many sophisticated businesspeople are finding new ways to use captives. I hope to help them understand the opportunities while staying focused on the basics, while learning together with experienced professionals already in the captive business."
