Maria Matamoros of The Weitz Company Receives 2022 Bill McIntyre Leadership Award

Dallas, TX, November 14, 2022—Maria Matamoros, vice president of risk management for The Weitz Company, was honored as the recipient of the 2022 Bill McIntyre Leadership Award today at the International Risk Management Institute, Inc. (IRMI), Construction Risk Conference (CRC).

Sponsored by Travelers, this award recognizes visionary leaders who demonstrate a commitment to construction risk management through creativity, service, mentoring, and education. The award is named for IRMI Executive Chairman Bill McIntyre, who has inspired, trained, and educated thousands of risk professionals and is a passionate advocate of construction risk management and safety.

Over the course of her 31 years in the construction industry, Ms. Matamoros has been involved in captive management, surety, claims, project risk assessments, and risk management policies, procedures, and training programs.

She moved into her current role in risk management after 10 years of working in operations managing high-end clubhouse construction projects. Prior to joining The Weitz Company, she spent 7 years in commercial construction administration roles in Ecuador, South America.

Ms. Matamoros is a graduate of the school of business of the Catholic University of Santiago of Guayaquil in Ecuador and holds a master’s degree in construction and real estate business administration issued by the same university in partnership with the Technical University of Madrid, Spain.

Ms. Matamoros is past chair of the AGC Surety Bonding and Risk Management Forum and is a member of The Hartford Construction Advisory Board.
