38th IRMI Construction Risk Conference Draws Excellent Attendance Numbers
Release Date:
Nov 8, 2018
Houston, TX— Over 2,000 construction risk and insurance
professionals convened in Houston, Texas, from November 4–7 for the 38th
IRMI Construction Risk Conference (CRC).
CRC began in 1982 with fewer than 150 insurance
buyers. It has grown into the only national symposium devoted exclusively to
managing, insuring, and bonding the risks of construction projects. This year’s
CRC featured 3 general sessions and over 40 sessions presented by more than 80
nationally recognized insurance, risk management, safety, and surety
experts.
Contractors large and small sent their risk, insurance, and safety managers.
For example, Bechtel, Tutor Perini, Fluor, Balfour Beatty, Skanska, Austin
Industries, Suffolk, Zachry, Walt Disney Company, Facebook, Intel Corporation,
and United Airlines represent a small sampling of the nearly 600 contractors
and project owners who attended. In addition, virtually all of the major
providers of construction insurance or surety services were represented, and a
substantial number of risk managers representing project owners (i.e.,
companies with large construction projects planned or underway) attended.
“The lack of qualified and well-trained workers, supply chain challenges,
and construction defects continue to be some of the most difficult risks for
contractors to manage and insure,” said International Risk Management Institute, Inc.
(IRMI) President, CEO, and Conference Cochairman Jack Gibson. “The IRMI
Conference provides unique opportunities for contractors, their brokers, and
their underwriters to engage in constructive dialog to develop and learn new
ways to meet these challenges. As a result, this Conference has become a
must-attend event for proactive risk managers and those in the insurance
industry who serve them.”
The 39th CRC will be held November
10–13, 2019, in Seattle, Washington.
