Drone

Definition

Drone — drones or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are flying devices without a human pilot onboard, designed and manufactured to be controlled by a ground-based person and a system of communications between the two. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) defines an unmanned aircraft as "an aircraft that is operated without the possibility of direct human intervention from within or on the aircraft." Standard policy forms developed by the Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO), similarly define an unmanned aircraft as an aircraft that is not "designed, manufactured or modified after manufacture to be controlled directly by a person from within or on the aircraft." An unmanned aircraft system refers to the unmanned aircraft device as well as the operating system, including the controller and software.
