Ms. Bates contributes material to several IRMI publications, including Commercial Liability Insurance, Commercial Property Insurance, Construction Risk Management, Insurance Law Essentials, and Personal Risk Management and Insurance.
Before joining IRMI, Ms. Bates served for several years as in-house counsel with a property and casualty insurance company, providing guidance on complex coverage, claims handling, and compliance issues. Prior to that, she spent nearly 3 decades representing clients in high-stakes insurance coverage matters. During that time, she authored a number of papers and was a frequent speaker on a wide variety of insurance topics. Ms. Bates has been recognized multiple times by D Magazine as one of the best lawyers in Dallas. Her experience includes virtually all types of property and liability insurance coverage.
Ms. Bates received her bachelor of arts degree with high honors from the University of Notre Dame and her law degree from Southern Methodist University School of Law. She holds the Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS) certification.
