Motor Carrier Interstate Update Included in Commercial Auto Insurance

This Commercial Auto Insurance release updates the "Motor Carrier (Truckers)" interstate section. Included is new information on the Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse (DACH) initiated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. DACH is a mandatory drug and alcohol testing and reporting database to be used by all motor carriers, effective February 2020. A new discussion of insurance for nontrucking use (IFNTU), commonly referred to as "bobtail or deadhead coverage," details the current court findings in determining when the motor carrier is "in the business" of trucking or on his or her own personal mission. For a deeper dive into the subject of IFNTU, IRMI has released a 35-page white paper on bobtail and deadhead coverage, which is available as a free download.

In addition to the new discussions on DACH and IFNTU, the "Motor Carrier (Truckers)" section—specifically, the areas of federal and interstate law dealing with registration and financial responsibility—has been updated and revised. Also, the "Glossary of Motor Carrier Terms" has been enhanced.
