2020 ISO Commercial Auto Program Revisions and New Endorsements in Commercial Auto Insurance

This release of Commercial Auto Insurance (CAI) presents the first of a two-part analysis of the Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO), revisions to the multistate commercial auto program. Even though they are designated as the "11 20" (November 2020) edition, the revised and new forms are not effective until December 1, 2020, subject to state insurance departments' approval dates.

The November 2020 changes include revisions to policy forms for the commercial auto, auto dealers, and motor carrier programs as well as 19 new endorsements. Some revisions broaden coverage, and some reduce coverage. (There are some endorsements that both broaden and reduce coverage.) The changes are based on recommendations from agents and insurers.

Release 5 includes the first part of IRMI's CAI analysis. This release includes the following.

Release 6—2020, to be published in December, will feature the second part of the analysis. It will include discussions on 32 existing endorsements that were revised as part of the 11 20 edition, for either coverage or editorial purposes to maintain consistency among the ISO programs. Also included in part 2 will be an annotated policy discussion for each of the three auto forms with a side-by-side comparison of the new 11 20 edition and the 10 13 edition, which is currently in use.
