Mr. Nierengarten served on the CGL Reporter
Editorial Board in 2014–2017, focusing primarily on general liability and
professional liability insurance issues.
Mr. Nierengarten is a principal with the law firm of Gray Plant Mooty,
practicing out of its Minneapolis office. For over 30 years, he has counseled
insureds on a broad array of coverage matters, including policy
interpretation, risk transfer strategies, negotiation of coverage with
insurers, claims processing, and resolution of third-party claims against the
policyholder. He also represents policyholders in coverage litigation and
frequently monitors litigation in which the insured is being defended under a
reservation of rights or there is the potential for uninsured exposure.
Mr. Nierengarten, a fellow in the American College of Coverage and
Extracontractual Counsel and a long-time member of the Tort, Trial &
Insurance Practice Section, is a frequent lecturer and author on insurance
coverage matters. He has a proven track record representing business clients
in a wide variety of commercial disputes and regulatory proceedings,
including class actions, environmental, intellectual property, toxic torts,
trade secrets, construction defects, creditor's rights, and contract
claims in addition to insurance counseling and litigation. This diverse
background is brought to bear in his analysis of insurance coverage
issues.
Mr. Nierengarten graduated Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude, from the
University of Minnesota and received his juris doctor degree, cum laude, from
the University of Minnesota. He is licensed to practice in both Minnesota and
Wisconsin, as well as admitted to practice in the US District Court for
Minnesota and the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.
