Ms. Padua joined the CGL Reporter Editorial
Board in 2004 and summarized umbrella and excess insurance cases through
2008.
Ms. Padua is admitted to practice in New York, Washington DC, and
Louisiana. She is an experienced litigator and a former prosecutor. She
brings to the Board expertise in insurance coverage litigation and insurance
defense involving environmental risks, mass torts, class actions, and
premises liability. Admitted in 1995 to the U.S. Supreme Court, she has
authored briefs in support of cases there and has argued cases before the
U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal and the Louisiana Supreme Court.
Ms. Padua has served in the Toxic Tort unit and is currently with the
Asbestos Unit of AIG Domestic Claims in New York, where she manages asbestos
claims against Fortune 500 companies. She assumed her current post after she
left New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina. Before moving to New York, Ms.
Padua had established a career in Louisiana representing national insurers in
coverage and defense of complex, high-stakes cases, including class actions,
involving pollution and mass torts. Before embarking on her private sector
career, Ms. Padua served as Assistant District Attorney for the New Orleans
area.
Ms. Padua has served on the boards of the National Conference of Women Bar
Associations and the New Orleans Association for Women Attorneys. She earned
her juris doctor from Loyola University, where she was a member of the Law
Review and the International Moot Court Team, after receiving a bachelor of
science degree in biology. Ms. Padua has contributed articles to publications
of the Louisiana Bar Association, the Association for Women Attorneys, and
the Times Picayune.
