Donald S. Malecki, CPCU


Prior to his passing in December 2014, Mr. Malecki was a principal of Malecki Deimling Nielander & Associates, LLC, an insurance, risk, and management consulting firm in Erlanger, Kentucky. He was also president of Malecki Communications Company, the publisher of Malecki on Insurance, a monthly newsletter on commercial insurance subjects. He earned a bachelor of science degree, with a major in business and an emphasis on insurance, from Syracuse University.

Mr. Malecki spent his entire career of more than 54 years in insurance and risk management. He began his career as a fire underwriter trainee. He also held positions with insurance companies as supervising casualty underwriter and claims consultant. He was a past president of the Cincinnati Chapter of the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters and served on the Society's Consultant, Legal, and Expert Witness Section's Committee. He also served on the examination committee of the American Institute for CPCU and was an active member of the Society of Risk Management Consultants.

Mr. Malecki was author or coauthor of 15 books, including one textbook used in the CPCU curriculum, and The Additional Insured Book, The MCS-90 Book, The Builders Risk Book, and Inherent Coverage Issues in Controlled Insurance Programs, published by International Risk Management Institute, Inc. (IRMI). His practical experience as well as the large amount of materials he accumulated for the cases in which he served as a consulting expert and expert witness served as a basis for The Additional Insured Book.

He was also contributing author for several other publications, including IRMI's Construction Risk Management and Commercial Liability Insurance reference services, and The Risk Report monthly journal.
