Speaking Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in presenting a session at the IRMI Construction Risk Conference.

The paragraphs below spell out our requirements for a proposal submission.

Full Session Proposal Requirements

Full-length session proposals should be submitted using our Session Proposal Form.

Note: The file opens in "Read Mode." To complete the form, follow these simple steps:

  1. Click on the link above to open the form.
  2. Click on "file" and then "Save As."
  3. Save the file on your computer under a unique name, such as your last name or the name of the primary speaker (e.g., Smith Proposal.docx).
  4. Complete all fields (use the checkboxes to note when a section is complete) and save your changes.
  5. Submit the completed form to [email protected] by January 31.

Presentation Content

A complete proposal will include the following.

Descriptive Summary
In 75 words or less, state the purpose of the session and summarize what attendees will take away from the session. The summary paragraph will be used to help us market the session.
Session Outline
Summarize in outline format the proposed content of the session. Please provide enough detail to allow us to understand the scope and content of the presentation (a minimum of 1.5 pages). If the session is selected, we may ask you to add additional detail to the outline to meet state requirements for continuing education approvals.
Learning Objectives
Provide three learning objectives that summarize what attendees will be able to do with the knowledge they obtain in the session or how it will enable them to do their jobs better.
Format
Indicate the style of the presentation—that is, lecture-style presentation, interactive panel discussion, or other format.
Proposed Time Frame
Our program can accommodate a variety of presentation lengths. Please indicate what you think is an appropriate amount of time to adequately cover the topic.
Target Audience
Indicate the target audience for your presentation based what the attendee is seeking to accomplish by attending.

Speaker Information and Agreements

Provide a list of proposed speakers. If more than one speaker is proposed, one speaker must be stipulated as the primary contact for the session. (The primary contact assumes responsibility for coordinating with other speakers to provide required session materials and to make relevant decisions about the workshop—for example, set-up, audiovisual equipment needs, etc.)

The following information may also be required of speakers:

  • A short (100 words or less) biography
  • A summary of recent prior speaking experience

Speakers must also indicate their acceptance of the IRMI Speaker Agreement should their proposal be selected for the program.


Speaker Selection Tips

  1. Keep the proposed number of speakers to the fewest required to adequately address the content.
  2. For multi-speaker sessions, please consider the following when recommending additional speakers
    • Expertise – the most important criteria
    • Speaking ability – good communicator, articulate, reliable
    • Diversity – strive for a cross section of our audience makeup
  3. All speakers should contribute to the educational discussion.
    • Please do not submit a speaker whose only contribution is to introduce the person who will provide the educational content. IRMI provides facilitators to make introductions.
    • Panel moderators should be able to contribute to the discussion as an expert on some aspect of the topic.

Snap Talk Proposal Requirements

Snap Talk proposals should be submitted using our Snap Talk Proposal Form.

Descriptive Summary
In 50 words or less, state the purpose of the talk and summarize what attendees will take away from the talk.
Five Key Points
Provide a 5-point outline that summarizes the key points of the talk.
