Insurance professionals and risk managers must be aware of exposures arising
for employment law claims. There are a number of laws that impact employment
law. Employment-related claims can be very costly, driven by the high
attorney's fees involved in these claims. The cornerstone law, Title VII,
protects against discrimination, harassment, or retaliation based on certain
protected categories. Title VII makes it illegal for an employer to fail or
refuse to hire or discharge any individual, or otherwise to discriminate
against any individual, with respect to compensation, terms, conditions, or
privileges of employment because of an individual's race, color, religion,
sex, or national origin. This course will review the Acts in detail focusing on
discrimination based on sex, gender, religion, racial, and national origin,
along with insurance implications for the various exposures.
