Orlando, FL, November 12, 2012—The Risk
Management Department of JE Dunn Construction Company was honored with the
Gary E. Bird
Horizon Award at the 32nd
IRMI Construction Risk
Conference. The award recognized the department for its use of
enterprise risk management initiatives.
The award-winning program used a holistic approach to address the risk
issues facing the company. The use of enterprise risk management had a
significant positive impact on the organization’s results. For example,
since the enterprise risk management initiatives were implemented in 2006,
the company’s recordable OSHA rate has dropped 63 percent and its lost-time
accidents have decreased 79 percent.
The Gary E. Bird Horizon Award, sponsored by Marsh, is presented annually
by IRMI to recognize a demonstrated commitment to improving construction
risk management through the implementation of innovative, cost-effective,
and efficient risk management techniques.
The panel of industry experts that judged the award submissions made
insightful comments about the winning submission. “This approach speaks to
operational excellence which is so necessary in the construction industry
today,” offered one judge. Another judge remarked, “This is an excellent
incorporation of all aspects of risk management.” A third judge commented,
“Any contracting company can learn something from this program.”
