outer continental shelf

Generally defined as all submerged lands that lie beyond the coastal states' territorial boundaries, to a water depth of 200 meters or where exploration is feasible. The state territorial boundaries normally extend 3 nautical miles, except in Florida and Texas where seaward boundaries extend 10 nautical miles.
