onshore captive
The basic dichotomy in captive domicile selection is onshore versus offshore.
As the name implies, onshore captives are domiciled within the shores of the
United States. Insurance regulation in offshore domiciles, such as Bermuda and
the Cayman Islands, is generally considered more flexible and reporting
requirements less stringent than onshore. With the development of more captive-friendly
onshore domiciles, such as Vermont and Hawaii, however, this difference has
become
less distinct.
