FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
The following are answers to some of the questions most often asked of our Client
Services staff. For more detailed explanations of any of these items, we recommend
you view our online tutorials
or page through the How
To Use section of IRMI Online.
How do I get started using my IRMI Online services?
After your account is set up, IRMI e-mails you or your account administrator instructions
on how to register and get a password. You must register before you can log in.
Registration is a simple, one-time-only process taking less than a minute.
During registration our system assigns you a password and e-mails it to you, along
with a second email to confirm the email address. To register, go to www.irmi.com/online.
- Click on the "Sign In" button located at the top right of your screen.
- In the document window on the right, click on the phrase "Register for IRMI
Online."
- The document window will now contain the Registration Page. Type in your six-digit
"account number" and your "business e-mail address," then
click on "continue."
- You will be asked to verify basic contact information and be given an opportunity
to subscribe to our free e-mail newsletters. We strongly recommend that you sign
up for The Electronic Owl to be notified when we add important information
to your IRMI Online library.
- Once you have verified this information and chosen your preferred newsletters, click
on "Save." When you see the message, "registration successful,"
check for an e-mail from IRMI with the assigned password you need to log in to IRMI
Online.
- You will also receive a confirmation email. Click the link in the email to confirm
your account. Without doing this, you will not be able to log in.
- Once you are registered and confirmed, you are ready to use IRMI Online. Always
log in with the e-mail address that you used during registration since it is the
only one our system will recognize whether you are in the office, at home, or traveling.
How do I sign in and begin using IRMI Online?
After you register and receive your password, you can now sign in and begin using

on at the top of the panel reads "Sign Out."
How do I change my password?
We recommend you change your password often, for better security. To do so, after
logging into the site, go to the top right corner of your screen and click on the
"My Profile" link. Once the Profile page is visible, click on the "Change Password"

your password." Then, type in the e-mail address you registered with, and
you will receive a message that a "Password Reset Request" has been sent
to your email address. When you receive the email, please follow the instructions
provided.
How can I reduce the number of "hits" returned from a search?
Use the Advanced Search option to improve your research results and reduce the number
of hits that may not be related to your search topic.
- Instead of using the blank search field at the middle top, click on Advanced Search.
You will then have a search page loaded with many more options, which will make
it possible to focus your search for information more precisely.
Do you have a more refined and precise search engine?
Use the Advanced Search option to refine your search and improve your research results.
- Choose from the five dialog boxes shown. The last one, "… containing these
words near each other," is good to use if you are not certain of the exact
order of the words, but you are confident all the words will appear in the results
found.
- Advanced Search also allows you to focus your search on a category of publications,
such as property or liability, or even a single publication by checking the box
next to the category name or publication title that appears in Advanced Search mode.
How can I search only within a specific coverage topic or category of IRMI publications?
Instead of using the blank search field at the middle top of your screen, use Advanced
Search instead.
- To limit your search only to specific coverage topics or IRMI publications such
as property or liability, click in the box next to those that you wish to search.
You may select more than one topic or IRMI publication. Now IRMI Online will search
only the topics or publications you have selected.
How can I search in the Classification Cross-Reference Manual?
When you search in the Classification Cross-Reference to find a workers
comp code, CGL code, or SIC code, or NAICS code, etc., you must use the Classification
Cross-Reference Search located in the middle top of your screen. The blank search
field or Advanced Search can not be used. Refer to the
"How To Use the Classification Cross-Reference" link.
How can I tell where I am in IRMI Online?
In most cases, when you navigate to a page in IRMI Online from a link on a page
or in the search results, the table of contents on the left hand side of your screen
will automatically adjust to show you what publication you are in and where you
are in that publication, by highlighting the appropriate entry. Also, if you look
at the
Toolbar
(at the top of the
Content Pane),
you will see a navigation path that shows you where within a particular IRMI product
you are. The navigation path shows your progress down through successive levels
of the IRMI Online table of contents, to the current document.
How can I page through a section of IRMI Online?
Click "Next Doc" in the tool bar at the top of the document window to
navigate to the next page in IRMI Online. Similarly, clicking "Prev Doc"
will take you to the preceding page.
Why can't I find a publication to which I subscribe in the Table of Contents?
The IRMI Online Table of Contents is organized using broad "topic" folders
and the IRMI publications are within these "topic" folders. For example,
the IRMI reference manual Commercial Liability Insurance is in the Commercial
Liability Publications folder. Simply expand the topic folder to view the publications
within it. You can consult your IRMI Online Publication List to determine the topic folder in which
your publication(s) resides.
- Click on small arrow to the left of the folder, or the folder itself to expand it
to reveal the publications grouped in it.
Why do I get the message, "Sorry, you do not subscribe," when I try
to open some IRMI Online publications from the Table of Contents?
The system allows you to open only those IRMI Online publications to which you have
a paid subscription (plus any free bonus material provided with your subscription).
You can eliminate this problem by setting IRMI Online to only show the publications
to which you subscribe. Here is how:
- Click on the "My Profile" icon in the upper right corner of your screen.
- At the bottom of this window, select "My Publications" and save your
selection.
- If you ever wish to see the contents of a publication to which you do not subscribe,
simply repeat this process and select "All Publications."
Of course, you can always add a title to which you don't subscribe to your
library by calling 1-800-827-4242 or visiting the Products section of our Web site.
