Wendy Capland writes the Leadership at All Levels column of the Insurance Industry section of IRMI.com.

Ms. Capland is the founder and president of Vision Quest Consulting, a management development firm dedicated to developing extraordinary leaders and organizations. She founded Vision Quest Consulting in 1987 to fill a niche in the field of executive leadership development by directly linking effective leadership to specific business objectives. Her bottom-line driven philosophy is drawn from 20 years of experience in human resources, marketing, sales, and organization effectiveness, working for companies such as Prime Computer and BankBoston, as well as several entrepreneurial ventures.

Drawing on her expertise, Ms. Capland coaches and consults CEOs, entrepreneurs, executives, and senior managers who want to increase their personal effectiveness and that of their management teams. The results are typically dramatic. Organizations stabilize, productivity increases, turnover declines, revenues improve, and interpersonal conflicts decrease. Ms. Capland works with many market leaders, including AT&T, Hale & Dorr, EMC, Compaq Computer, IBM, FleetBoston, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Unisys, Fidelity Investments, OneBeacon Insurance, Bain & Company, and John Hancock.

Ms. Capland has written Take it to the Top: A Guide to Executive Coaching and Mentoring Programs in America's Top Corporations, and writes a popular monthly Coaching E-Gram newsletter which is distributed worldwide. She is currently working on a second book about leadership practices. Her leadership commentaries have been published in numerous business journals. Ms. Capland is an internationally recognized speaker, and has been a featured speaker at Inc. Magazine's CEO 2000 Symposium, the Boston Women’s Network, and International Coach Federation conferences.

Ms. Capland holds a master's degree in counseling psychology with a concentration in business management from Boston College, and a bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She also holds a Master Certified Coach designation from the International Coaching Federation.
