Dr. Brenda Wells writes the
risk and insurance higher
education scene column for IRMI.com.
Dr. Wells is associate professor of insurance at East Carolina University
in Greenville, NC, where she is building an insurance program to serve the eastern
North Carolina region. She holds a Ph.D. and B.B.A. in risk management and insurance
from University of Georgia, and also holds the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter
(CPCU) designation and the Accredited Advisor in Insurance (AAI) designation.
She is a licensed agent and continuing education provider in Texas, and her
work has been published in Journal of Insurance
Regulation, CPCU Journal, Journal of Insurance Issues, and many others.
She has served on numerous industry and academic committees, and currently serves
on the board of the Western Risk and Insurance Association.
Dr. Wells's passion is to support and promote insurance education. She started,
and is currently the immediate past chair of the board, of Texas Risk and Insurance
Professional Society (TRIPS), an organization dedicated exclusively to the promotion
of insurance education in Texas. In her spare time, she enjoys creating jewelry,
paper, and mixed media art through her design company.
