"Bud" Lion wrote on risk management for insurance agent and broker errors
and omissions exposures for IRMI.com.
Mr. Lion started his insurance career with the Fireman's Fund Insurance Companies
in 1948 in casualty underwriting, holding various sales, underwriting, and executive
positions with the company throughout the United States. He was elected vice
president and manager of the San Francisco branch office in 1964. He then elected
early retirement in 1984.
In his capacity as manager, he developed and administered the group errors
and omissions (E&O) programs for the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers
of California; the Independent Insurance Agents of Oregon, Washington, and Hawaii;
and the Western Association of Insurance Brokers. He also had the executive
supervision of the E&O program for the National Association of Life Underwriters.
Upon his retirement, Mr. Lion established Alpine Risk Management Corp. and
developed a total E&O risk management loss prevention program for agents and
brokers. He is the author of an E&O loss prevention manual of procedures for
agents. He has both written and teaches E&O loss prevention seminars for agents
and brokers and was commissioned by the Independent Insurance Agents of America
and The Employers Reinsurance Corporation to write an advanced E&O seminar for
the national membership of the IIAA. This seminar is being taught in all 50
states. Mr. Lion is the author of many articles on E&O and also is the author
of the procedural analysis review program for agents and brokers. He is retained
by several prominent law firms in California as a consultant and expert witness
and is recognized as one of the leading experts nationally in E&O loss prevention.
Mr. Lion attended the University of California at Berkeley, majoring in economics
and mathematics; Golden Gate University at San Francisco, majoring in insurance
and insurance law; and the University of Portland, majoring in insurance law.
