John E. Black Jr.

John Black Jr. contributes articles on directors and officers (D&O) liability insurance legal trends for IRMI.com.

Mr. Black is managing principal of Boundas, Skarzynski, Walsh & Black, LLC, and has practiced in D&O liability and insurance since 1985. He has represented several major insurers in national programs of D&O liability insurance for publicly traded, privately held corporations and not-for-profit corporations. He has also worked with major insurers in drafting and interpreting insurance policies for nonprofit and for-profit D&O, fiduciary, insurance company professional, trust department errors and omissions (E&O), mutual fund, investment advisor, employment practices, media, and professional liability, and money market net asset value, and e-commerce.

Mr. Black speaks and writes frequently on liability and insurance issues. He has conducted in-house training sessions for insurance underwriters and claims analysts on various insurance underwriting, regulatory, and liability issues. He has been invited to speak before the NAII, the Chicago Bar Association, and several other organizations on D&O liability and insurance, employment law and insurance, and e-commerce liability and insurance. His most recent publication is an article he coauthored for the July 2002 issue of Business Lawyer entitled “Dangers Lurk in Cyberspace.”

Mr. Black is a member of the American Bar Association, and participates in the ABA sections for Tort Trial and Insurance Practice, Labor and Employment and Corporation, Banking and Business Law. He is a member of the ABA Cyberspace Law Committee, actively serving on its subcommittees for Electronic Commerce and Corporate Aspects of Internet Technology.

Mr. Black received his JD degree in 1983 from the University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana, where he was on the Moot Court Board of Editors and the Law Review.
