Mr. Mooney is one of the presenters for Workshop W3, “Preventing and
Defending Construction Defect Claims,” on Wednesday morning. Mr. Mooney is a
civil and structural engineer with more than 35 years of experience in
providing engineering-related services, from performing thousands of
residential and commercial building inspections to managing complex
multimillion-dollar engineering and construction projects. Mr. Mooney has
also served as a forensic engineering expert. He holds a Professional
Engineer’s license in eight states.
Mr. Mooney founded Criterium–Mooney Engineers in 1974. Since 1988, he
has been president and principal owner of Criterium Engineers, a national
consulting engineering firm with more than 60 offices throughout North
America. He continues to be active, performing inspections, structural
evaluations, investigative engineering, structural design, and staff
training for Criterium Engineers.
To date, Mr. Mooney has performed more than 15,000 building inspections
personally. In addition, his company annually now performs more than 20,000
building inspections nationally to standards he developed and refines on an
ongoing basis. Mr. Mooney has participated in quality assurance work on more
than 100 commercial projects nationally.
As a structural engineer, Mr. Mooney has designed a variety of structures
in wood, concrete, and steel. These structures include bridges, multistory
buildings, parking garages, and marine facilities.
Mr. Mooney holds a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from
Rutgers University.
