Mr. Herlihy is one of the presenters for Workshop W3, “Preventing and Defending Construction Defect Claims,” on Wednesday morning. Mr. Herlihy is an executive vice president and an equity partner of Ames & Gough. He is a senior partner responsible for serving the needs of large architecture and engineering national clients. Mr. Herlihy is a recognized expert on professional liability risk management issues affecting design professionals. He often provides loss control and risk management seminars for Ames & Gough’s clients, as well as national and regional industry groups. Mr. Herlihy serves on a number of industry association committees. He chairs the American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts Risk Management Forum and serves on ACEC’s Federal Agency Procurement Committee. He serves on the Design-Build Institute of America New England Chapter board.

Mr. Herlihy joined Ames & Gough in 1999 after a lengthy career with Lexington Insurance Company. At Lexington, Mr. Herlihy served as senior vice president of Lexington’s Construction Services Division. He was responsible for the underwriting and risk management services provided to numerous architectural, engineering, construction management, and construction contracting companies worldwide. He has extensive experience underwriting many of Engineering News Record Top 50 Design Firms and the country’s largest construction projects. Mr. Herlihy created Lexington’s Design Firm Risk Management Department in 1996. Prior to joining Lexington in 1982, he was a senior underwriter at Continental Insurance Company.

Mr. Herlihy holds an Associate in Risk Management designation from the Insurance Institute of America and the Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist certification from International Risk Management Institute, Inc.

Mr. Herlihy is a 1977 graduate of Boston College.
