What's In It for Me
To Attend?
Are you the Cobbler whose children have no shoes?
As construction risk and insurance professionals, we are often so concerned about the training our team members need, or what our stakeholders want and demand, that we don't take the time to
"sharpen our own saws."
Do any of these
statements sound familiar?
Maybe you've asked these questions, or certainly you have heard all of them at least once or twice in the last few years.
Consider this logic in response to those statements or questions:
I don’t have the time to leave my office right now.
At some point, you will need to leave your office to
get new ideas, get refocused or energized, and network with
clients and key players in the industry. The work will be
there when you get back. No doubt, with your Blackberry,
iPhone, or laptop, you will be able to stay in touch with
your office. It’s good for your team members to see you
leave the office. It lets them know you have confidence in
what they do when you’re not around—especially if you’re
the boss.
Shouldn’t someone else go?
Bring a colleague or client with you. Remember, you
can’t always pass
up the opportunities and still stay current with what’s going on
around
you. Yes, someone else can go, but perhaps its time YOU did some
networking with people in your field. These meetings are a good way
to gain new insight into best practices and test your tactics.
There’s nothing new.
Really? The Conference was conceived and strives for keeping up with
the overwhelming speed of change in our business. At no other place
will you find such targeted learning and networking, as the Conference
is designed by people like you for you! Nothing—no book, journal, or
website—can replace the one-on-one time you’ll have with your peers at
this Conference.
Or maybe you think this because you choose the same workshop topics
year after year. We’ve noticed that people tend to choose the topics
that they already know the most about. If you are already an expert in
certain areas, the Conference offers an opportunity to broaden your
knowledge into other areas, thereby making you more valuable to your
employer or clients. Attend some workshops on topics you know nothing
about, and you will walk away with useful ideas.
It's not in the budget.
Remember the old adage, “Penny-wise, pound-foolish?” Just compare
the
cost of attending to the revenue that can be garnered from one new
client or the money saved from one uninsured loss or E&O claim that
is avoided. The knowledge you gain and relationships you cultivate
at
the Conference will help you win new accounts or retain current
accounts if you are an agent, broker, or underwriter. They will help
you control the cost of risk for your employer through reduced
losses,
lower premiums, and better coverage if you are a risk manager, CFO,
or
insurance buyer.
