Prior to his death in January 2011, Mr. La Shier was Director of Risk Management at the University of
California, Riverside. Prior to joining the University of California, Mr. La
Shier was Director of Risk Management for the Los Angeles Unified School
District, which since 2002 has had the largest OCIP of any public agency in
the United States. The LAUSD’s OCIP covered over $19.2 billion worth of construction
for new school construction and existing school remodeling. Overall Mr. La
Shier had more than 35 years of construction and insurance experience, as an
insurance executive, risk manager, and contractor administering risk
management, project safety, labor relations, and loss control programs.
Several times published and a frequent speaker to trade associations,
professional societies, and industry conventions, he was recognized as an
industry authority in construction wrap-ups, risk management, and safety
management.
