Mr. Trethewey is a panelist for Tuesday’s General Session, “Double Down:
Winning Strategies from Leaders in Construction Risk Management.” His areas
of expertise include risk management, bond capabilities, insurance requirements,
and Miami market specifics. As senior vice president at Moss & Associates, LLC,
Mr. Trethewey is responsible for risk management, loss prevention, business
development, and marketing. Specifically, his role is structuring and implementing
the Project Risk Management Strategy; coordination and placement of performance
and payment bonds; oversight of a project-specific loss prevention program and
coordination with regulatory agencies like OSHA; and oversight of claims management
initiatives. He draws upon the relationships and knowledge gained during his
20 years of experience in the construction, risk management, and loss prevention
communities.
Prior to joining Moss, he spent 5 years at Centex Construction Group, where
he served as vice president of risk management reporting to the CFO of a $1.8
billion-a-year, geographically diverse, commercial construction company, a subsidiary
of Centex Corporation (NYSE: CTX), the largest building services corporation
in the United States. His duties there included overall responsibility for the
company’s initiatives in risk management, insurance, and surety. The risk initiatives
afforded the organization with the broadest possible coverage, most efficient
program structures, and largest amount of program capacity. The efficiency of
the programs produced a minimum annual economic contribution of 15 percent for
fiscal years 2000 through 2005. Additional responsibilities included owner contract
review, cost estimation, subcontractor prequalification and management, claim
resolution, and operational support. He chaired the Risk Management task team.
Prior to Centex, he served at Willis from 1989–2000 (senior vice president 1998–2000,
vice president 1995–1998, assistant vice president 1992–1995, account executive
1991–1992, account manager 1989–1991). He served as leader of Willis’s Risk
Management Practice Group in the Mid-Atlantic Region (District of Columbia,
Maryland, and Virginia). He supervised and managed sales, marketing, placement,
and customer service and retention initiatives for Fortune 500 clientele. He
also was a national resource for Willis’s Construction Practice Group. In the
capacity as a resource, assistance was provided to Willis retail offices throughout
the country in supporting the procurement and retention of commercial construction
clients. He began his career with Johnson, Lambert & Company (1988–1989) as
an associate. His function was staff accountant for a privately held accounting
firm. His duties were to provide auditing, tax, and consulting services to captive
insurance companies, risk retention groups, and mutual fund companies.
Mr. Trethewey earned a B.B.A. in 1988 from The College of William and Mary.
His professional affiliations include Association of General Contractors National
Risk Management Committee, National Surety Bonding Committee, Design Build Institute
of America Risk Management, Insurance and Safety Committee.
