Jeff Slivka

Mr. Slivka is presenting Workshop W10, “Insuring Construction Pollution Liabilities,” on Wednesday afternoon. At New Day Underwriting Mr. Slivka leads the Underwriting/Broking Group. In this role Mr. Slivka is responsible for management of day-to-day activities such as underwriting/broking activities, carrier and client relationship management, coverage negotiations, and program design/development. In addition, Mr. Slivka assists in creation of business strategy as well as sales/business development.

To New Day Underwriting, Mr. Slivka brings a strong combination of professional experience, having worked with major brokerage firms, managing agencies and insurance carriers. He has spent the last 19 years developing his environmental and professional liability underwriting expertise at Aon, Arthur J. Gallagher, and ECS, Inc. Prior to joining New Day, Mr. Slivka held the position of senior consultant/construction specialist in Aon’s Environmental Group. Based in Philadelphia, Mr. Slivka served as the environmental and professional liability resource for all construction-related business, assisting in the sales, broking, and crafting of various environmental and professional liability insurance programs for all types of construction firms on an international basis.
Over the years Mr. Slivka has also:

• Conducted environmental site investigations for potential Superfund sites as an environmental consultant for a large international environmental engineering firm

• Created occurrence-based Contractors Pollution Liability (CPL) policy

• Designed professional liability policy forms for construction firms

• Developed one of the most comprehensive environmental insurance programs for construction wrap-ups/OCIPs

• Conducted various environmental and professional liability training courses for many different industry groups

• Demonstrated expertise in mold/water intrusion management and prevention programs

• Assisted approximately 50 percent of the ENR Top 400 Construction firms with managing environmental and/or professional liability and structuring related insurance programs for these companies

• Authored various published articles on the subject matters of environmental risk management and professional liability risk management for IRMI, AGC, MCA, and other trade organizations

Mr. Slivka has also been in the forefront of helping businesses address a growing concern—mold liability. To help businesses learn about and manage their mold risks, Mr. Slivka co-developed many mold management/awareness programs for various construction-related risks. While at ECS/XL Environmental, Mr. Slivka underwrote and managed all types of environmental insurance and construction related professional liability products.

Mr. Slivka received his Bachelor of Science degree in geology from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. He has completed the professional designation of Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and is pursuing the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation. He is a member of the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) and serves on AGC’s National Risk Management Committee and Environmental Committees. Mr. Slivka is also the environmental columnist on IRMI.com.
