Continuing Education

IRMI is a provider of continuing education for a variety of professions and professional organizations.

We file the entire 3 1/2-day IRMI Construction Risk Conference with a large number of state licensing boards and professional organizations. As we obtain approvals, the number of credit hours available will be posted here on a state-by-state (and profession) basis.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can get credit?

  • Insurance agents, brokers, and adjusters can get CE credit in most states.
  • Attorneys should qualify for CLE credit in most states.
  • Architects and engineers can get AIA/CES learning units.
  • CPAs can get CPE credit.
  • CSPs can get COC credit.
  • Other professionals can get generic certificates of attendance.

How do I obtain credit?

(1) Verify that the information contained in your personalized 28th IRMI Construction Risk Conference Continuing Education Request Form (which will be handed to you with the Conference workbook when you check in at Conference) is correct and complete. Mark any additions or corrections in the space provided on the form, sign the form and return it to IRMI while you are at the Conference. If you have not previously furnished IRMI with your license information, you should plan to bring the information with you to the Conference so you can complete the form there. The information on the CE Request Form must be complete and the Form must be signed before it is turned in.

(2) If you are subject to the agents/brokers "no partial credit rule," attend a full complement of workshops for each half-day in which you desire credit.

(3) Regardless of whether you must attend a half-day of workshops to get credit or you are subject to the rules of a regulatory body that allows partial credit, attend each Conference workshop for which you desire credit in its entirety. Don't come in late, and don't leave early!

(4) Sign and turn in a required attendance voucher for each workshop for which you are requesting credit. Each workshop has its own voucher that is good for that workshop only, and it must be deposited in a box at the end of that workshop before you leave the room.

Is partial credit available?

Agents and brokers are subject to a "no partial credit rule." That is, CE credit is filed for and provided on a half-day basis, and credit for attending only part of a filed course is not available. Agents and brokers must attend all workshops for each half-day they desire credit and turn in all applicable attendance vouchers for those periods. In some cases, partial credit may be available for attorneys, CPAs, and other professions and professional designations. For information about the specific type of CE in which you are interested, see above for attorneys, architects and engineers, and accountants.

In what states, and for how many hours, is this year's Conference approved for agents and brokers credit?

The 28th IRMI Construction Risk Conference will be filed for approval with regulatory authorities in most states. To find out if you can earn CE credit for your license, please see the Agents and Brokers CE Credit chart.

CE credit requirements are enforced in accordance with the rules of the governing organizations. For insurance agents and brokers, CE credit is filed on a half-day program basis (except for Workshop M6, "Fundamentals of Contractual Risk Transfer," which is filed on a full-day basis); thus, each half-day's credit stands alone. Partial credit is not available for attendance of only a portion of a given filed program. It is vital that the agent sign and turn in the required attendance certification for each workshop attended.

Attorneys

We take a two-pronged approach to CLE with the IRMI Construction Risk Conference. First, we file it in the 17 states listed in the Attorney's Filed CLE chart. These states were selected because it is common for us to have a number of attorneys attend from them.

We do not have enough attorneys attend from the states listed in the Attorney’s Self-File CLE Chart to justify the expense of filing the conference with these states in advance. While we do not file in these states, each of them has a self-filing process that you can follow to secure CLE credit following the Conference. Soon after the Conference, we will send you a certificate of attendance and a link to pages on our Web site where you will find the information you will need to make this self-filing. While we will help you in any ways that we can with this filing, it is your responsibility to take care of it. Please note that many states require you to make this filing within 30 or 60 days of the Conference.

Unless otherwise prohibited, the number of hours of attendance credit that IRMI will certify is based on your actual hours in attendance evidenced by attendance vouchers deposited in accordance with our stated procedures. (The credit per workshop varies, depending on the number of minutes actually spent in the workshop.) Please do not ask us to certify attendance in excess of that for which you have deposited attendance vouchers as required.

What about AIA/CES credit for architects and engineers?

IRMI is a Registered Provider with The American Institute of Architects Continuing Education Systems. Credit earned on completion of this program will be reported to CES Records for AIA members. Certificates of Completion for non-AIA members are available on request. See the Architects and Engineers AIA/CES Learning Units chart for information on the number of learning units per workshop and whether the workshop qualifies for HSW credit for the 28th IRMI Construction Risk Conference.

HSW (Health, Safety and Welfare) in architecture is defined as anything that relates to the structural integrity or soundness of a building or building site. AIA members, as well as other architects licensed in states with mandatory continuing education requirements for re-licensure are required to complete a minimum number of hours of HSW-related training.

IRMI will furnish certificates of completion based on the total learning units for the workshops you actually attended as evidenced by the deposit of attendance vouchers.

What about CPE credit for CPAs?

IRMI is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit. Complaints regarding registered sponsors may be addressed to the National Registry of CPE Sponsors, 150 Fourth Avenue North, Suite 700, Nashville, TN, 37219-2417. Web site: nasba.org.

IRMI will furnish certificates of attendance based on your actual hours in attendance evidenced by attendance vouchers deposited in accordance with our stated procedures. (The credit per workshop varies, depending on the number of minutes actually spent in the workshop.) Please do not ask us to certify attendance in excess of that for which you have deposited attendance vouchers as required. For more information regarding administrative policies such as complaint and refund, please contact our offices at 800-827-4242.

  • Intermediate program level; no prerequisite or advance preparation is required.

What about other professionals?

This Conference is for professionals with all levels of knowledge in the subject matter, and no advance preparation is required. Where the Conference is not filed and granted a specific number of credit hours by a regulatory agency, IRMI will furnish certificates based on your actual hours in attendance evidenced by attendance vouchers deposited in accordance with our stated procedures. (The credit per workshop varies, depending on the number of minutes actually spent in the workshop.) Please do not ask us to certify attendance in excess of that for which you have deposited attendance vouchers as required.

How much does IRMI charge for CE, CPE, CLE, etc.?

At the present time, IRMI does not assess an additional charge to process most continuing education requests. There is one exception, as noted below.

Due to the cost of filing for agents, brokers, and other such licensees’ CE in the state of New York, there will be a flat charge of $50 for certificates for attendees with resident agent, broker, adjuster, or consultant licenses in New York.

When will I receive my certificates of completion?

Upon your submission of a completed Continuing Education Request Form and our receipt of appropriate attendance vouchers at the Conference, we will issue one original certificate (to you or your resident license state, as required) per filed program, in the case of agents and brokers. Due to the large number of requests for CE in connection with the Conference, it may take up to a full month for all certificates to be processed and mailed. However, we will begin to process both certificates and required rosters as quickly as possible.
