Andrew Berry

Chief Operating Officer, Managing Director

Mr. Berry writes the insurance technology section of IRMI.com.

As president and founder of Newport Risk Services, a professional services and consulting firm in the property and casualty (P&C) insurance industry, Mr. Berry has 20 years' experience in P&C insurance. Prior to that, he was cofounder and president of GRX Technologies (GRX), an industry leader in the development of collaborative technologies streamlining the management of large commercial insurance programs. GRX was at the forefront of the use of XML data standards in the insurance industry and was active in the development of ACORD's data standards initiative. He served as the founding CEO of the company, raising early-stage funding and recruiting senior management. During this time, the company was recognized as the recipient of the first HP Garage E-Scholarship and was featured in Business 2.0.

Mr. Berry started his career as an insurance broker in the London and UK retail brokerage markets, served as a risk management consultant with Tillinghast-Towers Perrin in London and Boston, and worked in the captive management industry with Strategic Risk Solutions (SRS), an independent captive management company. While at SRS, he developed approaches for the use of Web-based technology for managing the exchange of information on group captives. This approach used SharePoint technology and was subsequently adopted across all of the company's clients.

Mr. Berry has a bachelor of arts degree from Nottingham University in the United Kingdom and a master of business administration, summa cum laude, with a concentration in entrepreneurship from Babson College. He holds Fellowship of the Institute of Risk Management and Fellowship of the Chartered Insurance Institute designations. He is a member of the RIMS Technology Advisory Committee and was the founding editor of RIMSTech, the society's technology bulletin.
