DALLAS—International Risk Management
Institute, Inc. (IRMI), is pleased to offer a unique learning opportunity
through its general session for the
31st IRMI Construction Risk
Conference. “Rebuilding the World Trade Center: A Case Study in Safety
and Risk Management” will be held November 15, 2011, at the Hilton San Diego
Bayfront.
Using footage from the “America Rebuilds” documentary, this session will
demonstrate the challenges associated with the design and construction of
the new World Trade Center office towers, transportation hub, and memorial,
as well as some of the financing and political challenges of the project. A
panel of risk management professionals representing the project owner,
contractor, and key insurance providers will draw from the video footage to
describe the challenges encountered in ensuring the safety of future
occupants, construction workers, and the general public, as well as the
enormous challenge of assembling the insurance for the project.
“This panel discussion will present proactive and positive risk
management lessons learned from a very positive development for our
country—the rebuilding of the World Trade Center and dedication of the
memorial on this tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks,” said IRMI President
& CEO Jack Gibson, CRIS. A preview video is available at
http://www.irmi.com/conferences/crc/info/world-trade-center-video.aspx.
The six-person panel will represent the perspectives of all sides of the
risk management process for this huge construction project, including
project management, safety, risk management, insurance brokerage, and
insurance underwriting. Attendees will leave with not only an appreciation
of how it was done on this project but also how some of the innovative
tactics they employed can be used on other projects.
The 31st IRMI Construction Risk Conference is the place for construction
risk professionals to get answers and make certain they have implemented
risk management best practices. Each year, the Conference brings about 1,000
leading project owners, general contractors, subcontractors, developers,
insurers, and insurance brokers together to explore and convey
state-of-the-art ideas and techniques for improving insurance coverages,
controlling insurance costs, and fine-tuning risk management programs. It
also provides an unparalleled opportunity to build a powerful network of new
industry contacts and revisit established ones. For further information on
the Conference and to register, visit
