DALLAS—Construction claims substantially increase owners’ costs and decrease or eliminate architects’ and contractors’ profits. Unfortunately, the increasingly complex project delivery methods being used today have altered and magnified the design responsibilities and corresponding liabilities of design and construction teams, dramatically increasing the potential for disputes and claims. International Risk Management Institute, Inc. (IRMI), will be offering three seminars in cities across the country in March and April of 2004 explaining today’s design and construction risks; how they are allocated in standard contracts; and what actions owners, contractors, and design professionals can take to manage them.

The curriculum for Proactively Managing Risks and Claims in Design and Construction will cover risk allocation trends in contracts, implementing the right project delivery system, trends in design liability claims, defending against contractor claims, and contractors professional liability insurance. It is designed to benefit architects, engineers, contractors, and project owners as well as the legal and insurance professionals who serve them.

The seminar will be held in the following cities: Las Vegas—March 23-24, MGM Grand Hotel Chicago—March 31-April 1, Courtyard on Magnificent Mile Washington D.C.—April 13-14, Grand Hyatt Washington

The seminar is being designed and presented by design and construction insurance and legal experts J. Kent Holland, Esq., and Michael C. Loulakis, Esq. Both are attorneys with the law firm of Wickwire Gavin, P.C., are well known for their expertise in not only the law but the insurance available to cover design and construction risks, and are excellent public speakers. Mr. Loulakis is a recipient of the IRMI Words of Wisdom Award in recognition of his superior presentations at the IRMI Construction Risk Conference.

The registration fee is $597 for corporate buyers and $797 for service providers.
