Michael R. Mead
Michael R. Mead, CPCU, writes about captives for IRMI.com.
Mr. Mead is a veteran of the insurance industry, serving in a variety of
roles: regional director of a global broker, an underwriter, and an entrepreneur,
starting and operating several insurance-related companies. He is currently
a director and past chairman of the Captive Insurance Companies Association,
vice president and director of the Arizona Captive Insurance Association, and
a director of Crusader International Group and its affiliate companies.
Mr. Mead is involved in an ownership and management position with a Cayman-based
insurer/reinsurer which provides risk financing and estate planning opportunities
for selected risks, and is president of a DC-based captive specializing in deductible
reimbursement policies. He also has an ownership interest in three captive management
firms: Meeting Street Management of Charleston, South Carolina; Potomac Captive
Managers of Washington, DC; and Sonora Captive Management of Scottsdale, Arizona.
He has established risk financing companies in several other domiciles as well.
Mr. Mead has appeared as a speaker at numerous industry conferences including
the World Captive Forum, the Captive Insurance Companies Association, various
contractor associations, the School of Professional Development of the University
of Wisconsin, and the National Association of Surety Bond Producers.
Additionally, Mr. Mead is a member of the Society of Chartered Property Casualty
Underwriters, the Surplus Line Association of Illinois, of which he was a founding
director, and the Professional Liability Underwriting Society.
