Mark Layton writes for the enterprise risk management column in IRMI.com.
Mr. Layton is the global leader for the enterprise risk services practice
at Deloitte & Touche LLP.
During his 30-year career, Mr. Layton has held a number of industry, functional,
and marketplace leadership roles including: energy industry national audit partner
or industry leader, mid-America managing partner, Canadian managing partner
audit and enterprise risk services, and U.S. managing partner for enterprise
risk services. He has also served on a number of Deloitte & Touche committees,
including: U.S. nominating committee, Canadian executive/operating committee,
the U.S. executive/operating committee, and the global audit leadership team.
Mr. Layton has been actively involved as the lead client service partner
or advisory partner on a number of key clients including the Coastal Corporation,
Dean Foods, Halliburton, TXU Energy, and Valero Energy Corporation. He has frequently
testified as an expert witness in bankruptcy and litigation matters involving
the energy and utility industries.
Mr. Layton holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Stephen
F. Austin University and is a CPA, licensed in the state of Texas. Mark is an
active supporter in the community, serving on the board of the Dallas Theater
Center and is also a member of the Society of International Business Fellows,
serving as a committee member of the Texas chapter.
