Charles Kolodkin writes the healthcare professional liability insurance column for IRMI.com.

Mr. Kolodkin is executive director of Enterprise Risk and Insurance, at The Cleveland Clinic Health System, one of the country's largest health systems and consistently rated among the nation's top 5 hospitals. He is responsible for all risk management activities of The Cleveland Clinic Foundation and Health System, including risk finance, captive operations, managing claims, overseeing and analyzing risk management data, conducting educational programs, and administering the risk management program.

Prior to joining The Cleveland Clinic in 2005, Mr. Kolodkin was senior vice president at Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., advising multi-hospital systems, physician groups, and managed care organizations in the areas of risk management and risk finance. Mr. Kolodkin also served for over 10 years at the largest not-for-profit healthcare system in Texas as the officer responsible for risk management, insurance, professional liability litigation, and captive operations. Mr. Kolodkin has over 25 years of experience in the insurance business with the past 20 devoted exclusively to the healthcare industry.

Mr. Kolodkin received a BA degree from Miami University (Ohio); an MBA degree from the University of Georgia; and a JD from Texas Wesleyan University. He has also been awarded the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation and both the Fellow and Distinguished Fellow designations from the American Society of Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM). He has been active in ASHRM and RIMS on both a local and national level, participating on committees, holding elective office, and speaking at annual conferences.
