DALLAS—International Risk Management Institute, Inc., has announced its newest seminar, Captives Built To Last—How To Structure and Operate a Captive Insurance Program That Withstands Market Cycles. This new, intermediate-level seminar applies to those who understand or have been through the feasibility study stage and want to learn more about the practical realities of owning and operating an insurance company.

The curriculum for Captives Built To Last will deepen your understanding of the operation and financial issues that arise in different types of captives, how to set expectations for the captive management and service team, and how to quantify captive “value added.”

The 2004 seminar will be held in the following cities: Las Vegas, May 5–6, at the MGM Grand Hotel; New Orleans, May 19–20, at the Hyatt Regency; and Philadelphia, June 2–3, at the Sheraton University City Hotel.

The seminar will be presented by two captive veterans, Kathryn A. Westover and Gordon Cook. Ms. Westover is a highly regarded expert on captive insurance solutions, serves on the Vermont Captive Advisory Board, and is an adviser to the Washington, D.C., Department of Insurance and Securities. She is also the author of Captives and the Management of Risk. Mr. Cook has worked in the insurance industry for over 20 years as an executive and consultant, and is a founding principal of OPTIS Partners, LLC, a consulting firm that provides merger and acquisition, organizational strategy and structure, process improvement, and other services to captives, agents/brokers, and traditional insurers.
